Scars can often be unpredictable and uncomfortable. Depending on their placement, size, and coloration, they can also affect your quality of life. Letting a wound heal without any topical treatment can result in more noticeable scars, so it’s important to apply the right medication to ensure the best results.

What is PracaSil™-Plus?

According to the Professional Compounding Centers of America (PCCA), Pracasil™-Plus is defined as “the first compounding base created for patients who want to improve the appearance of scars.”

It is composed of a silicone base and Pracaxi oil, a skin-friendly oil extracted from the seeds of the Pracaxi tree found in the Amazon rainforest. It works by providing your skin with a powerful barrier to greatly improve the appearance of scars.

Clinical Studies

Several case studies have been published where patients with various kinds of scars including surgical, traumatic, burn wounds, and others apply Pracasil™-Plus. All patients have reported improvement in the size, severity, color, and pain of their scars.

In one study, a 41-year-old caucasian patient who underwent facial surgery for a kind of skin cancer (Basal cell carcinoma) applied Pracasil™-Plus to the affected area one to two times a day after wound closure.

After applying Pracasil™-Plus to his scar, the patient was reported to have an overall improvement of 75% according to the Patient and Observer Scar Assessment Scale (POSAS). It’s a validated scar assessment scale designed for patients to evaluate their own scar progress.

The patient reported a score of 87.5% improvement in scar pain, 85.7% improvement in itchiness, 77,8% improvement in color and stiffness, 50% improvement in thickness, and 66.7% improvement in irregularity.

In an eight-week double-blind study, ten adults with skin scarring were divided into two groups. One group used Pracasil™-Plus twice daily, and the other group used a reference scar product twice daily.
